Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers can be extremely helpful if you are confronted with a small fire emergency, firstly though you need to know which, when, and how to use any of the different types of fire extinguishers available. With any fire extinguisher you should make yourself familiar with the instructions, which accompany it - upon delivery, before attempting to confront a fire ensure everyone's safety, ensure they are all well away from the fire – even outdoors, ensure your own safety, do you have safe egress, if at all you are unsure – DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TACKLE THE FIRE, no matter how small. Basically fire extinguishers are pressurised containers, which can release a fire fighting solution in a controlled direction. They can be quite simple to operate by basically removing a securing / safety pin, pointing at the fire and shooting (releasing) the enclosed solution. There are 3 main types of fire extinguishers, powder, water and foam. Before buying you need to assess your own personal needs and know what types of fires each solution can be used on. There are also Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) extinguishers, which are perhaps the best type for home use as they are effective on various types of fire.
Before purchasing any fire extinguishers please understand that we do not suggest that any untrained person can be totally effective or safe when confronted by a fire. We offer the above to help you make informed choices. Let us reiterate if at any time when confronted by any fire if you feel unsure there is a phrase on the UK government's website
GET OUT – STAY OUT – DIAL 999
